Bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia Home—A Call to People of Faith to Defend Justice and Human Dignity

Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a husband and father of three U.S. citizen children, was living legally in Maryland when ICE agents forcibly deported him to El Salvador. A federal judge declared his removal illegal, saying: “There is no factual basis that anyone can hold Mr. Abrego Garcia.” Yet, Kilmar remains imprisoned in CECOT—a Salvadoran mega-prison notorious for human rights violations and torture.

Kilmar’s case is part of a pattern of abuse. The Trump administration has deported hundreds of individuals—including many Venezuelans and Salvadorans—without due process, ignoring court orders and violating basic constitutional protections. These are not isolated incidents; they are attacks on the rule of law and on the God-given dignity of every human being.

As people of faith, we are reminded of Leviticus 19:34: “The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself.” Our faith compels us to act.
